The SNP polled at 43 per cent of those certain to vote, a drop of seven since the 2015 election, while the Liberal Democrats were on five per cent.

Translated into seat predictions by Weber Shandwick’s Scotland Votes tool, this would give the SNP 51 seats, the Conservatives four and Labour and the Liberal Democrats two each.

Scottish Labour General Election campaign manager James Kelly said the party will target Edinburgh South, East Lothian, Lanark and Hamilton East, Coatbridge, Chryston and Bellshill, and Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath.

In leader approval ratings, satisfaction with Jeremy Corbyn rose 13 points to -13 while Theresa May dropped 43 points to -27 and Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson dropped 13 points to +5.

Satisfaction in First minister Nicola Sturgeon dropped 18 points to -4.

In the same poll, support for independence was down three points to 47 per cent with No at 53 per cent.

The poll was conducted with 1016 Scots between May 22 and 27
