National Museums Scotland is looking to recruit a head of digital media to increase online engagement at Scotland’s four national museums.

The head of digital media will lead the digital media team, which sits within the External Directorate and is responsible for engaging audiences through digital channels; developing online and social media content, including interactive features, learning resources, blogs, games and apps; and leading a digital upskilling programme for staff.

The successful candidate for the post will be expected to develop a new digital media strategy aligned to National Museums Scotland’s Strategic Plan 2016-20, deliver interactives for the next phase of the National Museum of Scotland Masterplan and contribute to the development of both a new organisation-wide digital strategy and a new customer relationship management strategy.

The organisation is looking to appoint someone with a good understanding of digital media for engagement, marketing and communications as well for in-gallery interpretation and learning.

They should also have experience of leading a team to create and manage audience-focused digital media products, as well as of identifying and assessing emerging technologies and developing strategic partnerships.

Transforming digital engagement was a key focus of NMS’ strategic plan for 2016-20.

The job advert says: “Our Strategic Plan 2016-20 firmly puts the focus on transforming our digital engagement.

“As Head of Digital Media you will help spearhead that transformation, leading the creation and implementation of digital media strategies to support organisational priorities, exploiting digital channels to raise our national and international profile, and increasing interaction, engagement and communication with our audiences.”

The salary offered is £41,348 to £46,881 and the closing date is 13 March.
