Theresa May warned her Brexit deal will fail once again next month

Theresa May has been warned her Brexit deal will once again be rejected by MPs, after she pledged to give MPs another chance to back her deal in early June.

If the deal is defeated, Number 10 warned the UK will leave with no deal or Article 50 will be revoked, as the EU will not grant another extention.

Labour said it will not back the deal unless the Prime Minister is prepared to compromise, while the SNP, Lib Dems and DUP also said they will not back it.

Talks between the Government and Labour aimed at agreeing a Brexit deal have been going on for six weeks without any sign of a breakthrough.

Labour has demanded a permanent customs union with the EU, as well as a guarantee that any agreement cannot be ripped up by May's successor as Tory leader. So far she has refused to budge.

Last night a Downing Street spokesman said: "This evening the Prime Minister met the Leader of the Opposition in the House of Commons to make clear our determination to bring the talks to a conclusion and deliver on the referendum result to leave the EU.

"We will therefore be bringing forward the Withdrawal Agreement Bill in the week beginning the 3rd June.

"It is imperative we do so then if the UK is to leave the EU before the summer Parliamentary recess. Talks this evening between the Prime Minister and the leader of the opposition were both useful and constructive.

"Tomorrow talks will continue at an official level as we seek the stable majority in Parliament that will ensure the safe passage of the Withdrawal Agreement Bill and the UK’s swift exit from the EU."

A Labour party spokesperson said: "Jeremy Corbyn set out the Shadow Cabinet's concerns about the Prime Minister's ability to deliver on any compromise agreement.

"In particular he raised doubts over the credibility of government commitments, following statements by Conservative MPs and Cabinet ministers seeking to replace the Prime Minister.

"Jeremy Corbyn made clear the need for further movement from the Government, including on entrenchment of any commitments."

May's deal has already been comprehensively defeated by MPs three times.

Nigel Dodds, the DUP's Westminster leader, said: "If the Prime Minister brings the Withdrawal bill to the Commons for a vote the question will be 'what has changed?'

"Unless she can demonstrate something new that addresses the problem of the backstop then it is highly likely her deal will go down to defeat once again."

SNP Westminster leader Ian Blackford said: “Scotland has been completely ignored by Westminster throughout the Brexit process. When the Tory Withdrawal Agreement returns to Parliament, SNP MPs will reject it and the devastating harm it would inflict on Scotland."

The UK will elect MEPs to the European parliament next week.
