SNP MP Chris Law is being investigated by Police Scotland in relation to his financial dealings.
Reports in the Daily Record suggest the MP for Dundee West is being investigated in connection to the ‘Spirit of Independence’ campaign, which he founded in the run up to the 2014 independence referendum.

Police Scotland said the MP was detained and interviewed yesterday, before being released.

The Daily Record reported a source close to Law as saying: “Chris attended the police station on Wednesday morning and provided information in relation to a matter under investigation.
“He has agreed to provide the police with further information and is confident the matter will be resolved.”

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “A 46-year-old man was detained and has been released pending further inquiries. Investigations are continuing.”

Law is the third of the 56 SNP MPs elected in the 2015 general election to be linked to police investigations. Both Michelle Thompson and Natalie McGarry were elected as SNP MPs, before resigning the party whip and sitting in the Commons as independents.

Nicola Sturgeon said Law has not resigned the party whip because he believed he could clear up the issues being investigated.

She said: “Chris, as I understand it, yesterday attended a police station. He provided information to the police relating to a matter they’re investigating and he has agreed to provide them with further information.”

She added: “He hasn’t been charged with any offence and he’s confident he will be able to resolve the matter so I think that at this stage, that should be allowed to take its course.”

Earlier this week McGarry was charged with embezzlement of funds, breach of trust and offences under the Scottish Referendum Act 2013. She denies any wrongdoing.
