Shortlist announced for Holyrood’s Showcasing Scotland awards
Lib Dems Wendy Chamberlain and Alistair Carmichael have been shortlisted alongside Labour MP Scott Arthur in the Scottish MP of the Year category at this year’s Showing Scotland awards.
Now in its second year, the Showcasing Scotland Summer Reception and MP Awards recognises the contribution of Scots at Westminster.
Chamberlain, co-chair of the all-party parliamentary group (APPG) for the survivors of former Harrods owner Mohamed Al Fayed, is recognised for her work on the issue of violence against women and girls, while Carmichael, chair of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee, is shortlisted for his work on raising the matter of food security.
Arthur, who was elected in 2024 as the MP for Edinburgh South West, is shortlisted for his introduction of the Rare Cancers Bill, which has now passed into law.
In the One to Watch category, new SNP Westminster leader Dave Doogan is shortlisted alongside Tory MP John Cooper and Labour’s Gordon McKee.
Three Labour MPs – Zubir Ahmed, Torcuil Crichton and Kirsteen Sullivan – are shortlisted in the Speech of the Year category.
Mandy Rhodes, managing editor of Holyrood, said: “Scotland is well served by its talented and hardworking MPs at Westminster.
“Along with some familiar faces, I’m pleased to see many new MPs, who were first elected in 2024, among the shortlist.
“Last’s year Showcasing Scotland event was a huge success and this one promises to be better yet.”
The winners will be announced at the reception on 7 July.
