Scottish flights delayed after air traffic control problem

Scottish flights have been delayed after air traffic control problems.  

It is the second time in the last two weeks that National Air Traffic Services (Nats) has experienced a technical issue that has impacted parts of the UK.  

The fault occurred at the Nats’s second control centre at Prestwick. It was fixed by around 10:30am.   

It has led to a number of departing and arriving flights being severely delayed and over 30 cancellations, with the disruption being felt in Scottish, Northern Irish and northern English airports.   

The incident follows a failure less than two weeks ago at Nats control centre in England. It affected travel plans for hundreds of thousands of passengers.   

A Nats spokesperson said: “The issue in our Prestwick centre is now fixed. We are working with airports and airlines to safely lift air traffic regulations as quickly as we can to minimise any further disruption. Passengers should still check the status of their flight with their airline. We apologise for the disruption.”  

Nats said the problem was “unrelated to the issue two weeks ago. We apologise for the disruption.”
