Ministers launch new Cairngorms National Park Partnership Plan

Ministers have launched a new five year plan for the Cairngorms, with a focus on developing affordable housing, increasing woodland, restoring peatland and investing in walking routes.

The Cairngorms, part of the UK’s largest national park, covers the Highlands, Aberdeenshire, Perthshire, Angus and Moray.

The new Cairngorms National Park Partnership Plan includes targets to build 200 new affordable homes by 2022, alongside plans to deliver superfast broadband.

It will also aim to bring more volunteering opportunities, as well as a ‘visitor giving’ scheme to help maintain the Park’s extensive visitor infrastructure and natural heritage.

Launching the plan, Environment Secretary Roseanna Cunningham said: "Scotland's national parks conserve and enhance our rich natural and cultural heritage, while supporting the sustainable development local communities want and need.

"That's why I am delighted to launch the Cairngorms plan, which sets out how that balance will be achieved between now and 2022, and which has been developed in full consultation with those same communities."          

Cunningham also met with the Tomintoul & Glenlivet Landscape Partnership to hear about the £3.6m rural regeneration work taking place.
