Labour bans 1,200 from leadership vote

Concerns have arisen that supporters of other political groups are signing up to back Jeremy Corbyn for the leadership, Politics Home has learned. 

Those banned include Conservative MP Tim Loughton, journalist Toby Young and film director Ken Loach, who is a member of further-left party Left Unity.

Some 214 Green Party members, 37 from the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition, 13 Conservatives, seven from UKIP and one from the BNP are all among the total figure.

Labour said it expected the number would continue to rise as further new members are checked.
