Holyrood nominated in multiple categories at the Scottish Press Awards

Holyrood has been nominated across multiple categories at this year’s Scottish Press Awards (SPA).

Holyrood’s managing editor Mandy Rhodes, and journalists Margaret Taylor and Ruaraidh Gilmour have been shortlisted in three categories.

Rhodes is amongst six people in the running for Columnist of the Year.

Taylor is up for the Nicola Barry Award and Gilmour is nominated for Young Journalist of the Year.

Now in its 45th year, the SPAs celebrate the best of Scottish journalism and this year's awards feature 121 nominees across 24 categories.

These nominations follow a particularly successful 12 months for Holyrood, where it picked up five awards and a commendation at the PPA Scotland Awards in November last year. Rhodes was amongst the winners, picking up Editor of the Year. She also won Writer of the Year the year previous. The magazine was named Media Brand of the Year.

Richard Neville, chair of the Scottish Press Awards judges, said: "It has been fantastic to see the quality of entries to this year’s awards. The talent in this industry stretches right across the spectrum of digital and print publishing and across every region of the country.

"The need for incisive, challenging journalism grows every year and Scotland’s journalists have risen to the task in the past 12 months.

"Telling good stories will always be at the heart of what the industry does but holding the rich, powerful, and opportunistic chancers to account is of equal importance. It is clear from this year’s shortlist that Scotland is not a place to come to avoid scrutiny."

Chief executive of Total Politics Group Mark Wallace said: "It’s great to see Holyrood’s excellent journalism recognised by the Scottish Press Awards. Expertise and unparalleled insight make the magazine agenda-setting, headline-grabbing and industry-leading, which the whole Holyrood team can be proud of."
