HMRC seeking cloud IT director

HMRC is advertising for a deputy IT director for cloud services who will help implement cloud infrastructure across the service.

The role is part of a new cloud delivery group within HMRC, which will be accountable for all IT infrastructure services and hardware for the department’s IT.

The position is offered at a salary of up to £100,000 and the successful candidate will be responsible for migration onto the HMRC cloud platforms.

They will report to the director of development, testing and operations and will line manage a team of around 50 staff.

The recruitment drive follows nine months after failing to recruit for a more senior cloud transformation role last autumn, when the department was looking for a cloud transformation director to deliver change at HMRC “on a massive scale”.

It was advertised with a salary of more than £160,000. An HMRC spokesman confirmed to our sister website PublicTechnology that this position was never filled.

But, he added, the more senior role was part of a wider digital and information reorganisation within the department and was not part of the cloud delivery group that the deputy director will lead.

The closing date for the HMRC role is 11 July.
