Foysol Choudhury suspended by Labour

Foysol Choudhury has been an MSP since 2021.

Foysol Choudhury suspended by Labour

Labour MSP Foysol Choudhury has been suspended by the party following an allegation of harassment.

A complaint is understood to have been made by a person who works in the parliament.

The Lothian MSP, who was first elected in 2021, will sit as an independent at Holyrood while an investigation by the party is carried out.

A Labour spokesperson said: “The Labour Party takes all complaints seriously.

“They are fully investigated in line with our rules and procedures, and any appropriate action is taken.”

Choudhury was previously reported to have been “administratively suspended” following a complaint.

Commenting on the suspension, SNP MP Kirsty Blackman urged Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar to “come clean” on the reasons for Choudhury’s suspension.

She added: “Whatever the explanation, with yet another scandal on the eve of their party conference, there's no doubt the Labour Party is in crisis.”

Scottish Conservative deputy leader Rachael Hamilton said Labour was in “complete chaos”.
