Exam results day: Storm Floris delay warning for Scottish students

Disruption caused by Storm Floris may delay exam results for some pupils, the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) has said.

Around 147,000 young people will receive National, Higher and Advanced Higher exams today.

Online notifications will be unaffected but those waiting for mail delivery in some parts of Scotland may be subject to localised delays.

Those affected are advised to access results via their school or college or place an enquiry through the SQA website.

Skills Development Scotland (SDS) has set up a results helpline providing support and assistance for those receiving results, which is available from 8am today on 0808 100 8000.

Education secretary Jenny Gilruth said: "Results day is an important opportunity to celebrate achievement and success which is clear through a wider range of pathways for learners than ever before.

"There are many options available for young people, no matter the results they achieve, and the helpline offers invaluable advice on a whole host of issues from college and university places to Ucas Confirmation and Clearing, apprenticeships, jobs and volunteering.

"I appreciate the immense hard work and dedication which Scotland's young people have applied throughout the year and I also know how well supported they have been by our teachers, by lecturers, and by parents and carers."
