Conservatives lead Labour by single seat in race for second, according to new poll

The Conservatives are on track to narrowly beat Labour to second place in Thursday’s Holyrood election, according to a new poll which puts just one seat between them.

A Survation poll for the Daily Record found Ruth Davidson’s party lead Labour on the regional list with 20 per cent to 19 per cent.

However, Kezia Dugdale’s party remains two percentage points up on the Tories in the constituency vote with 21 per cent compared to 19 per cent.

The findings, when put through Weber Shandwick’s Scotland Votes tool, would see the Conservatives win 24 seats to Labour’s 23.

It comes after an Ipsos MORI poll for STV News last week put the Conservatives at 23 seats – up eight on 2011 – with Labour on only 20, down 17 on the last election.

Meanwhile, the SNP would claim 69 seats for the second successive Scottish Parliament election if the poll results are played out later this week.

Nicola Sturgeon’s party sit at 49 per cent on the constituency vote and 43 per cent on the regional list, according to Survation.

The Scottish Liberal Democrats would increase their number by one, though Willie Rennie’s party would still be overtaken by the Greens by a single seat.
