The Greens are now a party of intolerance, dogma and prejudice
Anyone who has been following the trajectory of the Green Party in recent years would not have been surprised by its declaration that Zionism is racism because the members, many unsurprisingly, recent joiners, have been on a narcissistic, turbo-charged journey of intolerance and smirking self-righteousness that was inevitably leading to a final act of self-destruction – and good riddance when that end comes.
In the autumn of 2026, days before the third anniversary of the barbaric atrocities committed against Jews on October 7th and as we come out of the hottest summer on record – when fires raged across the globe, droughts were prevalent, freak floods devastated, and a series of environmental tipping points put the world on high-alert for the coming of the Super El Nino – the Greens burnt down their house – and it had nothing to do with climate change.
At the party conference in Brighton a motion stating it was racist to support the existence of the state of Israel – which is what Zionism essentially is – was passed with a standing ovation. And worse, a second motion, aimed at protecting Jewish Green members who attend synagogues, given the vast majority are Zionist in orientation, was defeated.
These sanctimonious prigs weren’t even prepared to protect their own and as the ballots were cast it emerged that the conference organisers had been forced to arrange a ‘safe room’ for Jewish delegates. Four of the five Green MPs, including its former leader, voted against the motion and high-profile members began announcing their intention to quit.
And while effectively a political pogrom against those who believed in the need for a single global sanctuary for Jews – arguably the most persecuted minority in the western world – was being applauded, the Green Party’s leader – a Jew himself and a man very keen on proselytising to others – was silent. He wasn’t even in the room to witness the beginnings of the harakiri this once benign party of all things ecology was about to commit. No, he was on the doorsteps of Camden trying to further his own political career. He might even have been knocking on the door of Jews hoping for their support.
Zack Polanski, the man who once boasted he could help women expand their bra size simply by the power of thought and who was being tipped as the popular, populist that would become a power broker in the next government, and who has now been firmly rejected at the ballot box in a by-election and been ostracised by other parties in terms of any future coalitions given his party’s racist attack on Jews, proved in that moment that he isn’t just a charlatan, he’s a coward. And as the ramifications over the Greens’ assertion that Zionism is racism are felt both here and abroad with potentially monumental implications, Polanski is now discovering there is no boom without bust.
A leader who has so little control or curiosity over his party’s governance that it voted for such an inherently racist, anti-Israeli, anti-Jew motion and he only later learnt that the member behind the motion, Lubna Speitan, a British-Palestinian activist, was described in US court documents as a “close friend” of a now jailed al-Qaeda terrorist. Speitan is now under investigation by the very party that she has helped to implode in a classic case of shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted.
Amid it all, Polanski has failed to articulate a clear position on any of this but true to pusillanimous form revealed his inner thoughts through the conduit of others by liking a social media post which said that people who disliked the Green Party’s “Zionism is racism” motion should “get over yourselves and move on”.
‘Move on’. His party, in effectively vetoing a two-state solution in the Middle East by supporting the establishment of a “single democratic Palestinian state in all of its historic Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital”, went even further than the wishes of the Palestinian Authority itself. And in wanting a one-state solution which would mean by implication, the eradication of Israel, where does Mr Polanski suggest the Jews move on to?
I suspect he will have no answer to that because the modus operandi now adopted by the Green parties across these isles is one of bold assertion and no debate.
And shocking as all of the fallout from the recent party conference may be, it hasn’t come from nowhere. The Green Party in all its devolved iterations – and let’s remember that the ties are not just bonded in ideology or name but in hard cash as the £150,000 loan from Polanski’s party to Ross Greer’s ahead of the Scottish election shows, ironically indicating that there are times when being bankrolled by England is a price worth paying – has increasingly become a party of intolerance, dogma and prejudice.
And for a group of so-called free-thinking individuals they quickly succumb to a group-think mentality. An echo chamber party that deplores dialogue, eschews introspection, and condemns thoughtful contemplation. There’s something Stalinist about this. But it didn’t start with the Middle East, it began with the rhetoric behind a demand that Trans Women are Women (TWAW) and the clear science denial from a party proudly established around the scientific facts of climate change.
In the same way as the Greens will now tolerate Jews but only the ‘good’ Jews who are willing to deny certain elements of what for many is woven into their cultural, religious, emotional and historical identity with a belief in a spiritual homeland, they will tolerate women, but only ‘good’ women who are willing to accept that men can also be them too. Gillian Mackay, co-leader of the Scottish Greens has made it very clear that belief in TWAW is a red line, whilst gushingly cheering on the leader of a now racist party as he entered the final straights of his by-election contest is not.
When Andy Wightman left the Scottish Greens citing intolerance to debate, that should have been a wake-up call about how far this party had travelled from people who wanted to save the planet to people who would applaud misogyny and have now given the greenlight to the harassment of Jews who believe in self-determination. This isn’t inclusion, it isn’t progressive, and it does nothing to save the planet.
People often ask themselves, what would you have done if you had been alive when they came for the Jews. The Greens should be looking in a mirror right now and asking who it is they really want to be.
