Trump set to visit Scotland later this month
Police Scotland has confirmed it is preparing for a potential visit by US President Donald Trump later this month.
It has confirmed preparations are underway for the occasion, which would be the first time Trump has travelled to Scotland since being re-elected last November.
Although details on the visit are yet to be confirmed, he is expected to visit his golf course in Aberdeenshire.
Assistant chief constable Emma Bond said: “Planning is under way for a potential visit to Scotland later this month by the President of the United States.
“While official confirmation has not yet been made, it is important that we prepare in advance for what would be a significant policing operation.”
An official date for the visit is yet to be announced, but his International Golf Links in Balmedie is closed for bookings from 26 July to 13 August.
His Trump Turnberry courses are also unavailable between 26 July and 29 July and rooms cannot be booked between 24 July and 28 July.
The US president was due to come to the UK on a second state visit and meet King Charles in Scotland this summer.
However, the visit was cancelled due to “diary reasons” and is now expected to take place in September.
First Minister John Swinney argued for it to not go ahead, following Trump’s controversial meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, where he accused him of “gambling with World War Three”.
However, Swinney has also said he would not refuse to meet with the US president if he travelled to Scotland.
Trump last visited Scotland in 2023, attending a ceremony to break ground on the MacLeod Course at the Trump International resort in Menie.
