Politicians and their pets: Monica Lennon and Cuillin

Age?

19 months

How long have you had him?

We welcomed Cuillin into our home when he was 2 months old. He was a big, gorgeous puppy and he has tripled in size.

Where did you get him?

Rutherglen. He was the oldest of the litter and it was adorable seeing 11 little Labradoodles running around.

What can he do?

He makes us smile every day. He is also a Munro-bagger.

What do you love about him?

His fun nature, athleticism and loyalty.

What special talents does he have?

Cuillin likes to pose for the camera on rocks, trees and bales of hay. He has his own Instagram account (cuillin_lennon).

What’s his best trick?

Definitely posing for the camera unprompted.

What are his most annoying habits?

Carrying on at bedtime when everyone is trying to wind down and sleep.

What’s the worst thing he’s done?

Chewing a favourite pair of my shoes and stealing my daughter’s birthday cake.

Do you think of yourself as a pet parent or pet owner?

Parent and friend.

What’s the most exorbitant thing you’ve ever purchased for your pet?

My husband bought a new (old) VW campervan so Cuillin could go on adventures across Scotland. He wouldn’t even try to deny this. Cuillin kept barking because I was on his seat, so now we have three seats in the front.

What’s the most ridiculous thing you have bought or done for your pet?

My daughter bought him an elf costume for Halloween. We took some (s)elfies.

What’s your first pet or animal-related memory?

My brother being knocked off his feet by a neighbour’s dog and later had the misfortune of being badly scratched.

What was the first pet you ever had?

My first childhood pet was a beautiful golden Labrador called Goldie. He was the ‘golden child’.

If you could have any animal as a pet, what would it be?

We already have Elvis the guinea pig and Cuillin. No more pets.

What would be your dream pet?

One that doesn’t eat my high heels.
