Bòrd na Gàidhlig
Bòrd na Gàidhlig is an executive non-departmental public body which was established by the Gaelic Language (Scotland) Act 2005. It is the principal public body in Scotland responsible for promoting Gaelic development.
The Bòrd has the general functions of;
- promoting, and facilitating the promotion of the use & understanding of the Gaelic language, and Gaelic education and Gaelic culture,
- advising (either on request or when it thinks fit) the Scottish Ministers, Public Bodies and other persons exercising functions of a public nature on matters relating to the Gaelic language, Gaelic education and Gaelic culture,
- advising (on request) other persons on matters relating to the Gaelic language, Gaelic education and Gaelic culture,
- preparing Statutory Guidance on Gaelic Education following the Gaelic provisions contained in the Education (Scotland) Bill 2015. (A copy of the final Bill is currently awaiting Royal Assent)
