Women and COVID: Tackling Economic Inequality Through Recovery

Women have borne the brunt of COVID-19’s devastating economic impact, as the pandemic has exacerbated existing inequalities in the labour market, such as unpaid care and domestic work.
A recent UK Parliament Committee report reiterated this, noting that job protection schemes appear to have given little consideration to labour inequalities, and that investment is being focused on male-dominated sectors.
At this event we discussed how equality can be placed at the heart of our economic recovery - through investment in a care economy; improved gender mainstreaming; and breaking down barriers to certain professions.
