Recover, Renew, Transform: Delivering Scotland’s Post COVID Justice System
17 March | 10:30 - 15:00
COVID-19 has disrupted every corner of society. The justice system is no exception, with the Scottish Parliament’s Justice Committee estimating it could take up to 10 years to clear the backlog of cases.
The pandemic has also exacerbated existing pressures as society ponders how to balance the interests of victims, witnesses and their families against managing the prison population through more community justice.
So how can Scotland’s justice system overcome the impact of COVID-19 on the justice system while also instigating longer term reform?
Our event will discuss answers to this question as we draw on the thinking of the Scottish Government’s recently established Recover, Renew, Transform programme and consider the potential role of technological solutions as well as examining latest thinking in victims’ rights, alternatives to prison and the role of restorative justice.
