Ending Scotland's Drug Crisis: Urgent Action and Radical Reform

19 February 2021 | 10:15 - 14:20

For the 6th year running, Scotland has recorded the highest drug death rate in Europe. Urgent action is needed to tackle this public health emergency.

The Misuse of Drugs Act has come in for much criticism and yet Scotland’s drug death rate is 3.5 times higher than that of England and Wales.

So what steps can be taken immediately using devolved powers to end the crisis?

Building on discussions at our recent Choose Life: Tackling Scotland’s Drug Emergency conference, this event will focus on practical steps for harm reduction that can stem the tide of drug deaths. The event will also discuss the long-term actions needed to end the stigma faced by drug users and tackle the underlying socio-economic conditions driving the crisis.
