Scotland's Social Services Workforce: Recruitment, Retention and Building Leadership Capacity

This event will examine the challenges faced by the social services workforce and will bring together experts to understand how we can attract talent into the sector, carry out effective recruitment and give people a reason to grow their career in social services.

The social services workforce in 200,000 strong, and growing

The social services workforce is under increasing pressure, with staff expected to adapt and change their roles to meet current demand. With the recent publication of Audit Scotland and the Accounts Commission’s report saying that there is little evidence that the policy of health and social care integration is working, now is the time to think seriously about how to create a sustainable social services workforce.

Aside from integration the sector is going through a time of change. Self-directed support, the expansion of early learning and childcare and other policy and practice developments all mean that practitioners need a wide range of skills to deal with the challenges ahead. Developing and maintaining those skills is essential for all in the sector.

Join Holyrood on 29 August for our annual Social Services Workforce event as we examine how to attract talent, recruit effectively and retain staff to make the workforce sustainable for the future.
