Reducing and Eradicating Homelessness in Scotland

In March 2018, the Scottish Government’s Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Action Group published their interim report, setting out key recommendations around rapid rehousing that rely on integrated support from frontline services and local authorities. Attend this Holyrood event for an up-to-date brief on latest policy and practice, and consider with peers how to most effectively intervene.

Bringing Scotland Home

Between 1 April 2017 and 31 March 2018, local authorities in Scotland received 34,972 applications for homelessness assistance, with 10,933 households in temporary accommodation. These figures represent the first rise in applications for nine years.

Prevention is key to reducing strain on existing services and ensuring they have the quality, capacity and flexibility to provide support to the most in need. How can we best utilise partnership working and embed good practice to meet these challenges and effectively address homelessness in Scotland?

Almost one year into the Scottish Government’s £50m ‘Ending Homelessness Together’ fund - designed to eradicate homelessness and rough sleeping in Scotland - this timely event will examine priorities, challenges and good practice in preventing and tackling homelessness.

Key issues we’ll address with you

  • The current policy landscape around rough sleeping and homelessness
  • Priorities for partnership working to effectively prevent homelessness
  • Providing person-centred support to people with complex needs – from mental health to addiction
  • Keeping temporary accommodation temporary
  • Innovative approaches to reducing and preventing rough sleeping
