Delivering Excellence in Maternity and Neonatal Services

This event will examine how we can work to improve continuity of care in maternity and neonatal serivces, as well as support and develop the workforce to deliver safe and excellent care.

In Scotland, a child is born every 10 minutes; we need to give them the best start

The new Public Health Priorities for Scotland emphasised the need to create a joined-up system to ensure a continuity of care and ensure that families get the right support, in the right place, at the right time in maternity and neonatal services.

The Scottish Government is committed to supporting and promoting good child and maternal health, so that all children in Scotland can have the best start in life. As highlighted in The Best Start: A Five-Year Forward Plan for Maternity and Neonatal Care in Scotland review and the upcoming Child and Adolescent Health and Wellbeing Action Plan, it is essential that we come together to understand how we can deliver a true continuity of care for families.

Health professionals have a vital role to play in supporting families in the first few years of a child's life. Particularly in providing guidance and support for key issues such as breastfeeding and in building and maintaining strong relationships with families from pregnancy and carrying this through into pre-school years.

Join Holyrood on 5 December as we reflect on The Best Start review two years on and examine how to deliver excellence through continuity of care, assess different models of care and how we can support the workforce to provide excellent services to families.
