Powering Scotland - Monday 30 January 2012
Our annual title dedicated to the various facets of the energy sector in Scotland.

This includes new and emerging energy sources such as CCS and biomass as well as Scotland's traditional energy providers such as oil & gas, nuclear and the growing renewable energy sector including solar, wave/tidal, wind (onshore and offshore).

Including insightful analysis from our award winning editorial team and contributions from some of the most informed voices in the sector, this publication will be indispensable reading for anyone involved in the delivery of Scotland's energy future.
Local Government - Monday 13 February 2012
All eyes are now on 3 May. After the SNP’s landslide win in the Scottish Parliament last year, people will want to see if the party can maintain its momentum at a local level, as well as to observe how Labour, the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats bounce back after shedding MSPs – and leaders – in 2011. Many will also see this election as an important measure of how far the Scottish people continue their love affair with the SNP.

In this Local Government supplement we interview the new minister for local government and planning Derek Mackay. The former Renfrewshire councillor and council leader went on to lead the SNP group at the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities from 2009 to 2011. Now in Government, Mackay outlines his views on how local authorities can meet the challenges they face.

localgovernmentAlso interviewed is Joe Fitzpatrick, convenor of the Scottish Parliament’s Local Government and Regeneration Committee which has embarked on a year-long inquiry into public service reform. Building on the Christie Commission and the Government’s response, Fitzpatrick details what the committee is hoping to achieve and the issues it believes are crucial in tackling.

Other interviews include East Renfrewshire Council leader Jim Fletcher, as he takes the helm of the Clyde Valley Community Planning Partnership, COSLA’s community wellbeing spokesman, Harry McGuigan and the new chairman of SOLACE, David Martin.

The supplement will also explore key issues facing local authorities, including the effect the economic downturn has had on Scotland’s towns, the use of arm’s length external organisations the way forward for Scotland’s local authorities, the impact changes to planning have had on local communities and the response of COSLA to welfare reform.

And it will look ahead to COSLA and the Improvement Service’s annual conference which will ask how political aspirations can be translated into tangible improvements in the lives of people across different communities throughout Scotland.
Older People - Monday 27 February 2012

This supplement will feature news and views on issues relevant to older people and policymakers, including the positive contribution of older people and their growing importance in the workforce.

It will also explore the implications of the proposed merger of health and social care, the challenges faced by the care home sector, financial security for older people, active inclusion policies, the role of technology in maintaining physical wellbeing and the importance of charities in older people’s lives.

Public Finance - Monday 12 March 2012
As the constitutional debate rages, what could the Scotland Bill/Independence mean for public finances?

This Holyrood magazine supplement will also ask how an outcomes approach to public service delivery changed the role of public finance professionals. And with councils across Scotland approving budgets, how differently are they approaching service provision? What role could social impact bonds have in public finances?

As Auditor General for Scotland Bob Black steps down after more than 10 years in post, what impact have Audit Scotland reports had on how effectively public organisations manage their finances?

Is protecting public sector employment, freezing council tax for the fourth year in a row and a commitment to a social wage sustainable in the current climate? How will the Scottish Government’s additional £94m of funding for local authorities be spent most effectively? What will the Scottish Government’s £3m Asset Management Fund mean for public organisations’ budgets?

And the UK Government reviews PFI, what is the private sector view of delivering large infrastructure and what can be learned from Scotland?

"I hate doing interviews with people and saying 'Oh, I really like your paper...', but what I like about Holyrood magazine is that you take that good old fashioned journalist approach and tell the reader what is happening and what is going on in a factual way, and the interviews that you do give a really deep flavour of the person behind the politics."
