Historic Environment Scotland (HES) is the lead body for Scotland’s historic environment – a £2.3billion sector supporting around 55,000 jobs - managing over 300 properties and a range of collections, with responsibility for listing/designating historic buildings and monuments, and providing planning and development advice.
As a non-departmental public body with charitable status, HES has awarded over £140million in grants since 2006 towards repairing historic buildings and supports the delivery of Scotland’s first historic environment strategy ‘Our Place in Time’.
With a vision of Scotland’s historic environment being cherished, understood, shared and enjoyed, HES is playing a key role in Scotland’s ‘Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology 2017’.
