The Stroke Association has opened a national office in Scotland in recognition of the major effect on the country’s health that strokes represent.
Stroke is the third most common cause of death in Scotland, and the most common cause of severe physical disability among Scottish adults. Approximately 15,000 Scots suffer strokes each year, one of the highest rates in the world.
Director of the Scottish office, Maddy Halliday said:
“We are excited to be in Scotland where stroke is a government priority. We hope to work in partnership with key stakeholders to work towards eliminating stroke and to help and support all those who have been affected by stroke.”
