Top NHS managers will face questioning from Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing Nicola Sturgeon and Minister for Public Health Shona Robison from next week as the Executive’s promised performance review of health boards kicks off.

NHS Dumfries and Galloway faces the first of the visits on Monday, which will see all 14 area-based health boards and nine special health boards face questioning from Sturgeon and Robison.

Chairs, chief executives and directors will be challenged to demonstrate how well their organisations have delivered over the last year.

Sturgeon said:

“It is right that those who manage our NHS boards are held to account in public and I hope people will take the opportunity to attend and participate in their local annual review. These meetings will provide opportunities to question the key decision-makers, who are delivering health services in local communities and for the first time, members of the public will be invited to submit questions for answer in a question and answer session at the end of the review meeting.

“As well as highlighting success and giving credit where credit is due to NHS staff who deserve enormous praise for their work, I want these annual reviews to tackle the tough issues, scrutinise local performance and drive forward further improvement.”
