Communities Minister Rhona
Brankin has announced over £50m in funding for the regeneration of some
of Edinburgh’s most deprived areas and the creation of 600 new
affordable homes across the capital.
More than £14.4m
will be earmarked for the regeneration of Craigmillar, and will be used
to provide new homes, jobs, schools and leisure facilities.
While making the announcement,
Brankin also announced that Edinburgh City Council will be provided
with £36m to create 600 new affordable homes in the coming year.
Brankin said: “This money
will help drive forward the regeneration of Craigmillar. But it is much
more than simply a cheque that will pay for the bricks and mortar. It
will make a massive difference to the local community - transforming
lives for the better.
“Working with local residents the local urban regeneration company,
PARC Craigmillar, will provide new homes, new jobs, new local
facilities and - just as importantly - a renewed sense of local
identity and pride for the people of Craigmillar. I am also able to
announce that the whole of Edinburgh will receive £36 million to
provide more of the warm, decent and affordable homes that people
deserve across the city.”
