Elections review calls for public’s views |

The independent review into the Holyrood elections, which saw almost 142,000 ballot papers spoilt, has called for the public to submit their opinions and observations.
The Scottish Elections Review, which is being chaired by Ron Gould, an international authority on the management of elections, will review the administration of the Scottish Parliament elections, and, at the request of the Scottish Executive, will also report on the local government elections.
The review body is considering the legislation around the election and the impact of the combined elections; the postal ballot; the design of the ballots; the count arrangements; the electronic counting system (including the issue of rejected and spoilt ballots); public information; roles, relationships and accountability and other relevant issues
The review team has already met with many of those involved in the administration of the elections including the Electoral Commission, the Scottish Executive, the Scotland Office, returning officers, electoral administrators, political parties, candidates and agents and other interested groups.
Ron Gould said: “It is important that voters themselves have an opportunity to give their views of how these elections were run.
“We are interested in people’s observations on a range of issues including the information on how to vote, the postal ballot arrangements and the ballot papers themselves.”
