Parliamentary allowances review panel announced |

The membership of a panel appointed to carry out a full scale review of parliamentary allowances was announced today by the Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body.
The panel will be independently chaired, with a majority of independent
members. Sir Alan Langlands, principal and vice chancellor of the
University of Dundee and former chief executive of the NHS in England,
will be the chair. In 2004, he chaired the Independent Commission for
Good Governance in Public Services.
Also on the panel will be Alastair MacNish, chairman of the Accounts
Commission and former chief executive of South Lanarkshire Council;
Isobel Sharp, president of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of
Scotland and a partner in Deloitte and Touche; Lord James
Douglas-Hamilton, former UK government minister, Member of Parliament
and Member of the Scottish Parliament; and former Finance Minister Tom
McCabe.
Scottish Parliament Presiding Officer Alex Fergusson said: "The
Corporate Body has moved quickly to bring together a high calibre panel
with strong experience in the fields of finance, accounts and corporate
governance.
"We are very grateful to Sir Alan Langlands and the rest of the panel
for agreeing to undertake this review. Under Sir Alan's chairmanship,
the panel will be asked to report back to Parliament no later than
March 2008."
