Over 11,000 young people have voted in mock elections across Scotland, culminating in a dramatic show of support for the Scottish National Party.
With over 240 schools registered for the project, the results reflected
the transformation of the political map that seen in the real
elections.
The party with the most support was the Scottish National Party, which
won 38 per cent of the school mock elections held, with Labour winning
20 per cent.
The Green Party polled well, winning 11 per cent of Scottish mock
elections. The Conservatives came fourth and the Liberal Democrats, SSP
and a series of small parties also won a small number of votes.
The Hansard Society encouraged schools to run mock elections alongside the Scottish Parliament and local council elections.
"Mock elections can bring politics alive for young people," said Angela
Wrapson of the Hansard Society Scotland. "They can help young people
make the connection between their concerns and the political process.
Today's results show that support for the SNP amongst young people
continues to be high."
