Shared services funding applauded |

Councils today welcomed the approval of five projects for implementing local government shared services in Scotland and the release of £2.1 million from the Efficiency and Reform Fund.
COSLA president Pat Watters said: "These five projects involve local, regional and national collaboration with direct involvement of partners from at least ten local authorities.
"The projects will result in better public services and cash savings of over £10 million over the next few years for all councils."
Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Sustainable Growth John Swinney said that the Scottish government was determined to declutter the public sector and focus resources on improved delivery of frontline services.
"Projects like these can free up substantial amounts of money from the public purse and is just one way of delivering better value for local tax payers. In this case alone that figure is £10 million.
"Local government is a key player in helping us to achieve our overarching goal of sustainable economic growth. Already I have met with COSLA and had early but very positive discussions around a better, more efficient delivery of public services."
