Labour MP accuses Greenbelt of “behaving like Farepak” |

Labour MP Jim Devine has accused factoring company Greenbelt Group of behaving like Farepak directors in their treatment of home owners.
He said that the factoring company, which has over 750 developments, were not providing the service that they should to home owners.
He said: “Greenbelt buy the common land from house builders then charge home owners anything from £100 to £180 per year for maintenance. As a local MP, I have been inundated with complaints from constituents who, whilst paying this money, are receiving no service or a very poor service. Woods are not being maintained, there are major safety issues in play areas, litter has not been removed from open areas and grass, shrubs and beds are overgrown.
“When a home owner then complains to Greenbelt they are effectively ignored.
“This is an unacceptable way to treat my constituents. This is why I am holding a public meeting tonight to which the managing director of Greenbelt Group Ltd has been invited to explain his Company’s behaviour.”
However, the Greenbelt Group said it totally refutes the claims made by Devine, which it called irresponsible.
A statement from Greenbelt added that to compare a company like Greenbelt with Farepak is not only spurious but illogical.
They said they are always more than willing to meet with customers to discuss their concerns.
They added that they aim to provide a high quality service but recognise that sometimes we have not come up to the standards we would like. However, customers should be reassured that - where it is within their power to do so – the company will work to resolve their concerns as quickly as possible.
The public meeting will be held this evening at Inveralmond Community High School in Livingston at 7pm tonight.

Carol Cramb, Unregistered We here in Midlothian, 55 houses at Copper Wood pay Greenbelt £255.88 pa We have a large play area used by the general public that we have to pay for. We pay high Council Tax so shouldn't the Council pay for the upkeep? 2. “behaving like Farepak”
Robert Shaw, Unregistered Couldn't agree more. I'm paying higher council tax in Bathgate, than some London houses - with all that London has to offer - as well as "Greedybelt". Why? I've complained a few times and sent jpegs to them to highlight their deficiencies, only to be fobbed off that my concerns will be remedied in the following spring - that was three years ago and I'm still waiting!! 3. “behaving like Farepak”
Neil, Unregistered The level of service that we have received from the Greenbelt company at the Middlewood Development in Livingston is appalling. I congratulate Jim Divine for raising this matter.
