House prices drop over the last quarter |

The average house price in Scotland dropped by 2.2 per cent in the last quarter but remain up on the same period last year, according to figures released today by Registers of Scotland.
The figures show that the average price for a residential property in
Scotland in the last quarter, January to March 2007, is now £139,836,
compared to £143,055 in the previous quarter, October to December 2006.
However the figure represents an increase of 12.3 per cent over the
same quarter last year. Furthermore, the total value of sales across
Scotland during the last quarter came to more than £4.5bn, an increase
of £660m, or 17 per cent, from the same quarter last year.
The Lothian region remains the most expensive to buy in with average
house prices of £178,139, although this has dropped 1.5 per cent from
the last quarter.
The Grampian area saw the highest year-on-year increase, 28.1 per cent, where the average house now sells for £150,627.
However, the Glasgow area remains the largest market with sales
totaling more than £1.4bn for the quarter, an increase of nearly £145m,
or 11.3 per cent, over the same period last year.
