Teenager nominated for senior post in Aberdeen coalition deal Print E-mail
Tuesday, 15 May 2007

SNP and Lib Dem councillors on Aberdeen City Council today announced their plans to form a new ruling coalition, with 18-year-old councillor John West nominated as Depute Lord Provost.

Talks between the two groups ended with an agreement to form a joint administration which is expected to be ratified at the Council meeting tomorrow. Coalition deals have already been announced for other Councils across Scotland after the new PR-STV voting system resulted in most local authorities having no overall control.

The elections earlier this month saw the Liberal Democrats win 15 seats in the new 43-seat council with the SNP taking 12 seats.

Liberal Democrat group leader Kate Dean and SNP leader Kevin Stewart are hosting a joint press conference to announce the nominations for Lord Provost, the new role of Depute Lord Provost, committee conveners and a new committee structure. The nomination for Lord Provost is Peter Stephen.

Other nominations include council leader and policy and strategy convener Kate Dean and council deputy leader Kevin Stewart.
