Blair will be defined by Iraq says Salmond Print E-mail
Friday, 11 May 2007

Scottish National Party leader Alec Salmond has said that retiring Prime Minister Tony Blair’s record will be tarnished by his involvement in the Iraq war.

Salmond acknowledged Blair had had some successes in his ten-year term but said the “illegal and unnecessary” conflict in Iraq would overshadow these achievements.

“Tony Blair’s legacy can be summed up in one word – Iraq. His undoubted achievements in office – notably the Northern Ireland peace process and positive measures such as the minimum wage – will be overshadowed by his fateful decision to take the country into an illegal and unnecessary war on false pretences.”
