Green co-convener Robin Harper has said that his party will need tangible movement from the SNP on its climate change policy if a confidence and supply agreement is to be reached.

While acknowledging that the Greens are unlikely to get the SNP to sign up to their target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 30 per cent from 1990 levels by 2010, Harper did say today’s negotiations would focus on the SNP moving toward that goal.

“There is a very important part of their manifesto on climate change that needs to be sorted out,” said Harper.

“We need something that we can take back to our party council and say ‘Look, we got gains’. We need clear Green policy gains and just having some influence is not enough. We said that to the SNP at the start of this and talks must be policy led.”
