Leading members of the Scottish arts scene are backing the SNP in this week’s election, according to the Nationalists.

SNP Depute Leader Nicola Sturgeon has welcomed the endorsement of stars from stage and screen who have pledged to back the SNP and their arts policies at the polls this Thursday.

The latest of the SNP's 'Count Me In' campaign featured in the Sunday Herald stated: “We believe it's time to make the most of Scottish talent. That's why we are all supporting Alex Salmond and the SNP on May 3. Count us in.”

Scottish stars such as Sir Sean Connery, Elaine C Smith, Mogwai, Popup, Dougie MacLean have all come forward to endorse SNP policy.

Ms Sturgeon also welcomed the latest endorsement of the SNP by Scottish crime novelist, Christopher Brookmyre.

“These endorsements of the SNP's plans to make the most of Scottish talent show that the momentum is with the SNP, with the right policies to take Scotland forward,” said Sturgeon.

“That's why an SNP government will introduce a range of measures to benefit emerging and existing artists through policies such as artists' tax exemption, new funding initiatives and exploring the implementation of film tax incentives in order to build Scotland's production base and bring more film making to Scotland.

“It's time to make the most of Scottish artistic talent. In government, the SNP will do all we can to free Scotland's artists and allow them to maximize their creative potential.”

Scottish voters go to the polls this coming Thursday 3 May for Scottish Parliament as well as local government elections.
