A new book making the case for independence featuring contributions by some of Scotland’s leading academics and journalists was launched in Edinburgh today.

The Independence Book, edited by former Herald editor Harry Reid and former diplomat and noted Nationalist Paul Henderson Scott, also features contributions from historian Tom Nairn, economist Neil Kay and fashion designer Betty Davies.

Described by Reid as a book that “could be dangerous”, The Independence Case, published by Luath Press, is being pitched as ‘the most significant political book in Scotland in a generation’ and the modern equivalent of Gordon Brown’s 1975 The Red Paper on Scotland.

“If you believe in the case for independence, this book will provide a stirring endorsement of your view. If you’re sceptical, it might persuade you to convert to the cause. If you are downright hostile, this book could be dangerous – it could prompt you to rethink,” says Reid.
