Wendy Alexander has repeated her support for a referendum on Scottish independence, declaring yesterday that the vote would happen and should happen soon.

Dozens more counter-terrorism officers will be recruited in Scotland after ministers handed police chiefs an extra £4m to tackle the threat of Islamic extremism.

Businesses will be encouraged to monitor the weight of their employees as part of a £56m Government plan to tackle Scotland's obesity epidemic.

Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill is to unveil a new bill at Holyrood which will entitle anyone in Scotland to raise an action if they contracted an asbestos-related condition called pleural plaques, a scarring of the lungs.
