European leaders to meet in Scotland Print E-mail
Monday, 16 June 2008

A major international business conference - The Forbes European CEO Forum - will be staged in Scotland next year.

The prestigeous event, run by Forbes magazine, will be held at the Gleneagles Hotel and is one of more than 100 that form the programme for Homecoming 2009, due to be announced today (June 16).

From Burns Night to St Andrew's Day, the activities will celebrate some of Scotland's great contributions to the world: Burns, whisky, golf, great Scottish minds and innovations and Scotland's culture and heritage.

Representing the entrepreneurial spirit of ancestral Scots, the Forbes family are renowned in business circles across the world and in June next year, they will return to Scotland to host the CEO Forum.

Steve Forbes, chairman and CEO of Forbes and editor-in-Chief of Forbes magazine, has spoken in the past of his links: “I’m the grandson of an immigrant from Scotland,” he said when running for US president in 2000.

“When my grandfather came to this country at the turn of the century, he came only with a dream, because he had practically no money. He worked very hard to create a magazine about people building the greatest economy on the face of the planet.”

Attracting business leaders and influencers from leading European and global companies, the conference will offer an important opportunity to showcase Scottish business tourism and the business environment.

As well as Forbes and other senior members of the company, this year’s conference in Cannes played host to executives from the New York Stock Exchange and Skype.
