Glasgow Cathcart MSP Charlie Gordon has come out in support of Third Lanark’s application to move from amateur ranks and rejoin the Scottish Football League.
Third Lanark enjoyed considerable success in the early part of last century but went of business in 1967 before returning to the Greater Glasgow Amateur League in recent years.. They have now applied to take the place in the SFL vacated after the collapse of Gretna FC.
Gordon said:
“I remember the excitement of being taken by my father to see Third Lanark play Celtic in a four goal thriller at Cathkin Park in 1960. If Gretna could go all the way to Hampden then there’s no reason why this famous old club can’t eventually make it to Old Trafford and the Nou Camp.
“Third Lanark might be playing in the third division of Glasgow’s amateur league but they won the Scottish Cup more recently than Hibs. Glasgow’s south side is ready to welcome back the crowds to Cathkin. Let’s get behind the bid and bring on Celtic and Rangers!”
