Scotland’s global sales team meets Print E-mail
Monday, 02 June 2008

Scotland’s business ‘sales force’ will gather for the first time later this month as part of the Government’s attempt to bring a more co-ordinated approach to promotion of the nation abroad.

Around 80 members of Scottish Development International from around the world will meet over three days, along with Scotland-based staff.

SDI was formed in 2001 to attract direct foreign investment. That function continues but the organisation is now also geared to helping Scottish business develop abroad.

The Government has spent the last year realigning Scotland’s enterprise network and skills initiatives.

Last month, it rolled out plans to co-ordinate international activities – covering SDI, Scottish Enterprise, VisitScotland, EventScotland, as well as educational and cultural organisations – so that its core aim of increasing sustainable economic growth could be best supported.

The event later this month will be a key opportunity for SDI’s new chief executive Lena Wilson to focus their effort.

Wilson, who will combine the job with her role as chief operating officer of Scottish Enterprise, has been acting chief executive of SDI for the past eight months.
