MSPs urged to “speak with one voice” on FPNC |

MSPs will today be urged to back the recommendations in Lord Sutherland’s report on Free Personal and Nursing Care and call for the UK Government to reinstate the Attendance Allowance.
Speaking ahead of today’s Scottish Parliament debate on Free Personal Care, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing Nicola Sturgeon said it was an opportunity for Scottish politicians to “speak with one voice” and send a clear message to Westminster that the decision to withdraw the Attendance Allowance was “unfair and unjust.”
Sturgeon said:
"This debate allows Parliament to speak with one voice and back our bid to have Attendance Allowance reinstated.
"The Sutherland Review concluded that the UK Government was wrong to stop paying the allowance for Scottish residents, while still paying it for those living elsewhere in the UK.”
She said the “unfair and unjust” move currently costs Scotland £30m each year and urged her fellow politicians from all parties to “seize the chance to add their voices to our call for fair treatment for Scottish residents."
