Gordon Brown is on a collision course with Labour's 10p tax rate rebels after the Government set its face against concessions.

A tax on big gardens is set to be piloted in Scotland as part of a deal to overhaul local government finance.

One of the country's biggest unions will declare this week that it is time for Scottish independence to be considered by all political parties .

Animal rights campaigners have accused ministers of stitching together a back-room deal with Scotland's shooting lobby to allow the controversial practice of snaring to continue.
