Thousands of people marched through Aberdeen on Saturday to protest about massive cuts being made to council services. The demonstration was organised in response to Aberdeen City Council's announcement of a £27m funding reduction earlier this year.

A new poll suggests nearly two thirds of Scots want a referendum on independence , despite growing support for keeping the union.

Ministers are preparing to face censure over alleged breaches of European laws meant to protect whales and birds of prey and to prevent pollution, an internal report obtained by the Sunday Herald reveals.

It has taken more than a decade to reach the statute books, but even as the new Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Killing Act comes into effect critics maintain the legislation does not go far enough.
