Scottish Museum Council is rebranded Print E-mail
Monday, 31 March 2008

The Scottish Museums Council has been rebranded as Museums Galleries Scotland from today.

Museums Galleries Scotland is the lead body for the funding, development and advocacy of over 340 museums and galleries in Scotland.

Joanne Orr, chief executive of Museums Galleries Scotland, said: "We felt this was the opportune moment for us to strengthen our identity and it has certainly been well-timed in light of the changes currently taking place in the Scottish cultural landscape.

"Strengthening the membership brand in this way will provide an enhanced platform for us to highlight Scotland’s museums and galleries and the invaluable collections they care for. It will ensure that we have a stronger voice for the sector."

Museums Galleries Scotland manages the Recognition Scheme which helps to make sure that collections of national significance to Scotland are identified, cared for, protected and promoted to a wider audience.

It also provides advice and support to museums and galleries on areas such as collection care, learning and access, ICT and workforce development, and distributes grants to museums and galleries.
