Enlighten’s Lothian-based operations will become part of Epilepsy Scotland’s services from tomorrow, and the new Edinburgh offices will be formally opened by Public Health Minister Shona Robison during National Epilepsy Week in May.

Susan Douglas-Scott , Epilepsy Scotland’s chief executive said the merger makes the charity stronger and gives epilepsy a powerful voice.

She continued: “Members tell us they want better healthcare, more information and greater opportunities for people with epilepsy.  By joining forces we will deliver a wider range of direct services often to vulnerable families.”

As part of this she said the charity plans to secure new funding and build on existing innovative projects already assisting those living with epilepsy.

Richard Roberts, chair, Enlighten, said the decision to merge came after it become “increasingly challenging” for the small charity to sustain the necessary management costs.

He continued:  ”We are delighted that Epilepsy Scotland can address this gap and take on management and development allowing Enlightens services to flourish and Epilepsy Scotland to grow.  We all have the same aim in mind - better and wider services for people with epilepsy across Scotland"
