University submits plans for new campus Print E-mail
Wednesday, 20 February 2008

Napier University has submitted a detailed application to Edinburgh Council for redevelopment of its Sighthill Campus.

The new campus will provide learning, teaching and research facilities for 5,000 students and staff.

For the first time the University will be uniting its Faculty of Health, Life & Social Sciences under the same roof.

Professor Joan Stringer, principal and vice-chancellor of the university, said: "The redevelopment of the Sighthill Campus is central to our ambitious estate strategy and our application for detailed planning permission is a major step towards making our plans a reality. Our investment in the Sighthill Campus will provide students and staff with hi-tech, well-designed facilities fit for a 21st century university and will create a landmark for the area."

The development will start in spring 2008 and will provide 100 new full time jobs for the local community. The projected cost of the project is £100m and the campus is hoped to be open by the start of the 2010/11 academic year.
