A new satirical website featuring spoof news stories, comment and opinion was launched today by two of Scotland’s “least respected” journalists. The Daily Mash, which aims to expose the “absurdities” of modern life, was created by former Press Association, Business AM and Sunday Times journalist Neil Rafferty and former Scotland on Sunday, Daily Record and Scotsman columnist Paul Stokes. As well as a satirical take on the worlds of politics, business, news and sport, the website also feature horoscopes, an agony aunt column and a weekly poll. Today’s top tongue firmly in cheek stories include: McConnell chairs cabinet dressed as Holly Hunter in ‘The Piano’; three year-olds to learn Klingon in Labour Manifesto Pledge; and Lib Dems pledge new teeth for all. Rafferty said: "Scotland didn't have a satirical website updated every day with juvenile humour and innuendo, so we decided to give her one." Stokes added: "Scotland is a grown-up country facing some major decisions about its future as a nation. It just seemed the ideal time for us to do something footling and small-minded like The Daily Mash.” www.thedailymash.co.uk One person has commented on this article. 1. Jaggy Thistle salesguy, Registered The Jaggy Thistle is a great read and takes a subtle side swipe at the hubris of most of our political masters. Anyone looking for quality Scottish political satire could do a lot worse than go there first. Posted 2007-08-07 13:35:11 Related news items: |
